The Swiss Logistics Market Study provides in-depth insights into the market three times a year. A key focus of the latest edition is the transformation of IT.
Published by GS1 Switzerland and the Institute of Supply Chain Management at the University of St. Gallen (ISCM-HSG), the study offers valuable guidance for decision-makers and industry professionals by analysing developments within the Swiss logistics sector.
In the first edition of 2026, experts examine the overall market of the 100 leading logistics service providers. One of the main focus areas is “The transformation of IT in logistics – structural challenges, cost implications and strategic guidelines.”
According to the study, IT in logistics has traditionally been rather monolithic. Companies often rely on all-in-one solutions covering multiple areas. As a best-of-breed approach, the study recommends a “suite-based” architecture combined with intelligent assistants that consolidate relevant information from fragmented IT landscapes.
These recommendations closely align with the approach of the BRABENDER logistic suite. With its interconnected modules and the targeted use of AI in the form of self-trained large learning models, it manages the entire transport process on a unified data foundation. The importance of shared data access is further emphasised throughout the study.
“Data plays a central role. Professional data management and fast, secure access are becoming increasingly critical in light of growing data volumes, rising costs, skills shortages and increasing cyber threats. These structural challenges are directly linked to significant financial implications. Companies must analyse and manage them effectively to remain competitive in the long term.”
Another key finding is that companies still invest too little in their IT infrastructure relative to its importance. A large share of spending is allocated to IT personnel. At Brabender, we follow two strategies: our customers can either work independently and flexibly or rely on our support as an external resource. Both approaches are based on our comprehensive system.
A future-proof all-in-one solution such as the BRABENDER logistic suite can serve as the foundation. It builds on existing processes, leverages agile workshops, processes all types of data along the entire transport chain, scales with growing demands, and provides well-structured in-house IT teams with the flexibility they need.
“AI is transforming the world as we know it. In IT, boundaries will disappear. Learning systems are becoming increasingly interconnected. This level of connectivity requires flexible systems.”
